I finally realized if i tried to read dear Julia's introductions all at once i'd never get a chance to cook. So today I headed off on my first of many trips to the grocery store (with my friend Robyn) to get ingredients for the first recipe in Julia's cookbook: Onion Potato Soup.
Two things: First, I hope her recipes get better. Second, I hope I become a better chef soon. The recipe called for potatoes, onions, and water. Thats it. Needless to say, the soup looked like what homeless people eat around a trash can fire except i'm sure the homeless people would have had the creativity to at least throw in a squirrel or something. She then said "Correct the seasonings to taste." and gave me suggestions on what to add....Why do you think people buy cookbooks woman?! To be TOLD what to put into it. So I whipped out the chili powder, sea salt, pepper, carrots, garlic powder, and Foodwise brand (a meal prep company in my neighborhood owned by a family in our church) ZAPP seasoning. After a couple taste tests from me and robyn, we had a decent soup. Actually it was a delicious soup, all due to my expertise in seasoning no thanks to Julia! But i am optomistic that things will turn around.
Tomorrow i am de-boning and sauteeing a chicken. Fun!!!
I tried it. It was awesome tasting!! However, it was thick and goopy and seemed more like mashed potato stew something. His roasted potato slices, from left over potatoes, were great!!
