My Reflections on Julia Child

I grew up watching Julia Child on channel 8 at my Grandpa's house when he would babysit me. As I grew older,  I forgot all about Julia Child until this year. I watched Nora Ephron's Julie and Julia. As i watched the film, everything i knew about Julia slowly came back. Watching the movie was a series of "Oh ya!" moments. Her hand on the back of her hip, her funny voice, the goofy music at the beginning of her shows, her brownish-red hair. and of course her height!

As i read everything in the cookbook, watch the film, and read Julia's My Life in France, I'm starting my own journey in learning about Julia. Will she "save my life" or will I decide she nothing but an old, giant, who is a sub-par cook?

Ok, i'm starting to think Julia Child is far from a culinary goddess but rather a washed up old lady who happened to get lucky and be at the right place at the right time....and be rich. I haven't been blown away by her recipes and her vagueness is driving me crazy! I love the stories she tells in the cookbook, the film, and her excerpts from My Life in France, but i'm starting to worry its all fake. Will my dreams and visions of Julia Child be crushed sub-par recipe after sub-par recipe?! I hope not. Still optimistic.
